The fight started in 1942, when allied reconnaissance aircraft discovered the Japanese constructing an airfield on Guadalcanal. On order, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines locates, closes with, and destroys the enemy by hearth and maneuver or repels the enemy's assault by hearth and shut battle.
